I have recently been exploring how far you can take AJAX in supporting access of large amounts of data on the web. Bill Scott and Darren James demoed a nice table component at the AJAX Summit, but it had a few restrictions. A couple of weeks back, I suggested taking it to the next step and use a scrollbar to activate the retrieval of the live data.
So, I have been working with Darren on implementing a nice table component that supports large datasets (thousands of records) with fast load time. It has been a lot of fun - Darren is a blast to work with. We should be releasing it to Rico early this week. We also have a couple of nice demos with it too. Bill has created an awesome demo using the table to display Yahoo search results. Pretty cool.
In the next couple of days I will do a write up on our approach for implementing the table component.
I am all psyched about doing a few more components. I also have an interesting idea on how to exploit the Rico controls in a great extension to the Rails framework. Should be quite cool.
I am looking forward to doing some more stuff with both Bill and Darren.
